Event Description
<p><a href="https://www.marissagerchick.com/" target="_blank">Marissa Kumar Gerchick</a> is a public interest technologist, data scientist, and researcher focused on accountability in artificial intelligence (AI) systems. She is currently a <a href="https://www.aclu.org/bio/marissa-gerchick" target="_blank">Data Science Manager and Algorithmic Justice Specialist</a> at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and an <a href="https://cyber.harvard.edu/people/marissa-gerchick" target="_blank">Affiliate</a> at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University. Gerchick's work has shaped AI policy at state and federal levels and identified discriminatory impacts of AI systems used in high-stakes settings. Her work has also supported legal efforts that have restored millions in terminated health equity research funding and challenged AI-enabled discrimination in policing, hiring, and other areas.</p><p> </p><p>At this session of Data + Donuts, Gerchick will speak about the civil rights implications of AI and how she and her team build technology to empower civil rights litigators.</p><p> </p><p>This talk will be given in a hybrid format. Harvard affiliates are invited to register to attend in person, while members of the public are invited to attend online.</p><p> </p><p>Since 2018, Data + Donuts has featured researchers and practitioners speaking about how they use data in their work, and on issues of data and society.
